For brides who want to wear something that is both minimal and glamourous, look no further than a crepe wedding dress. Whether light or heavy, crepe is a luxurious looking fabric that doesn’t require much embellishment to stand out—although you can certainly add some glitz if you’d like. It’s a beautiful option for a classic, traditional dress and is versatile enough to work with almost any bridal style.

To break it down, there are two basic types of crepe fabric: thin and heavy. Thin crepe fabric will feel lightweight and gauzy, with a bit of a crinkled look to it. Heavy crepe fabric, which is what you’ll most often find on wedding gowns, is smooth, thick, and comfortably stretchy. The best part about this material is that it looks lovely on its own, but it also pairs nicely with beading or lace.

Below, we’ve put together a selection of gorgeous crepe wedding dresses in a variety of styles that you can buy now.

Best Off-the-Shoulder: Grace Loves Lace Mila Dress

Size Range: Made-to-order | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

Made of luxe, thick crepe, this dress feels perfectly stretchy and almost fits like shapewear. The defined waist and flared skirt give it an hourglass shape, and the back features satin buttons and a long elegant train.

Best Square Neck: Jenny Yoo Elliott Gown

Size Range: Made-to-order | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

The square neckline of this gown is unique and gives it a bit of a modern spin. A low scoop back and fit-and-flare skirt make it appear elegant and offer a beautiful silhouette.

Best Back: David’s Bridal Collection Sheer Back Crepe Wedding Dress with Lace Train

Size Range: 0-14 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

From the front, this gown appears to be a classic option with a low neckline. But from the back, it’s a little more fun, with an illusion lace racerback and lace accented godet, that goes into a chapel train for maximum impact.

Most Playful Detail: Badgley Mischka Crepe Ruffle Side Column Gown

Size Range: 2-14 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

For brides who want to opt out of a train, consider this fun crepe column gown. The large side ruffle detail makes this feel playful and trendy, but it’s otherwise a bit more on the casual side.

Best Mermaid: Jenny by Jenny Yoo Portia Gown

Size Range: 0-26 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

Simple and classic, this timeless and subtle mermaid silhouette feels oh-so chic. A plunging back, accented with lace, is just enough of a special touch without feeling overdone.

Best Cutouts: Mônot Cutout Mesh-Trimmed Crepe Gown

Size Range: 0-10 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

The stretchy white crepe pairs beautifully with the keyhole cutouts featured on the front and back of this figure-hugging gown. With mesh details, this feels daring but still sophisticated.

Best Lace Details: Justin Alexander Danica Gown

Size Range: Made-to-order | Length: Floor-length | Material: Jersey, embroidery, crepe, lace, tulle

The beautifully detailed lace bodice of this gown really makes it stand out. We love the thin straps, low back, and elegant fit-and-flare style crepe skirt.

Best Statement Sleeves: Karen Willis Holmes Shelby Dress

Size Range: 0-14 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Dublin crepe

This simple gown features a V-neck and a traditional fit-and-flare silhouette. The crepe is thick and soft, and we also love that it can be easily customized (the sleeves are removable!).

Best Modern Option: Galvan Hampshire Satin-Crepe Gown

Size Range: FR34-FR44 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

For a slightly more modern look, opt for a gown like this one, which is simple with clean lines. The square neck, wide straps, and boned bodice keep it interesting with a touch of tradition.

Best Wrap Style: Karen Willis Holmes Nikki Gown

Size Range: 0-16 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

The wrap style of this dress makes it look elegant and timeless. A V-neckline, soft draping, and sheer sleeves provide a feminine and airy vibe.

Best Illusion: Alexandra Grecco Cassia Gown

Size Range: Contact retailer | Length: Floor-length | Material: Silk crepe and illusion tulle

This bodice, made with illusion tulle, is so detailed and is a nice contrast to the sumptuous white silk crepe skirt. We also absolutely love the sweet flutter sleeves and empire waist.

Best Jumpsuit: Amsale Caviar Beaded Crepe Jumpsuit

Size Range: 0-14 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

Bridal jumpsuits are a fun alternative to a traditional gown, whether you’re wearing them all night long or just for the afterparty. This one features a beaded camisole top for a little sparkle and a super soft crepe material throughout.

Best for a Spring Wedding: Jenny Yoo Leia

Size Range: 00-32 | Length: Midi | Material: Knit crepe

This gown is perfect for the minimalist bride who wants a laid-back style. The modern midi silhouette features clean lines and side-to-back cutouts that make it ideal for a sunny spring wedding.

Most Timeless: Justin Alexander Crepe Fit and Flare with Plunging V-Neck

Size Range: Custom | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

The fit-and-flare design of this gown makes it appear timeless and classic in the best way. A plunge neckline in both the front and the back shows off just enough skin, and the thick crepe fabric is comfortable and stretchy.

Best Bow: Wtoo Savvy

Size Range: 00-32 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

This strapless gown looks classic from the front but has a special detail in the back: a giant bow. With a flowing train and a deep-V bodice, this is such a gorgeous option.

Best Long Sleeves: David’s Bridal Off-Shoulder Button Back Plus Size Wedding Dress

Size Range: 16-30 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

It can be hard to find long sleeve wedding gowns, but this one is a true winner. Made of stretch crepe, this classic and simple design doesn’t need bells and whistles to stand out.

Best Strapless: WToo Rogers

Size Range: 00-32 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

Strapless ballgowns are beautiful and traditional, but sometimes a sleeker option, like this dress from WToo, is the way to go. A fully constructed bodice and self-tie streamers on the back are special additional details worth noting.

Best Beading: Justin Alexander Crepe Long Sleeve Wedding Dress

Size Range: Custom | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

There’s something so pretty about the contrast between intricate beading and smooth crepe. This long-sleeve gown is perfect for a winter wedding, featuring sparkling beaded embellishments on the back and thick crepe throughout.

Best Column Gown: Sachin & Babi Gabriella Gown

Size Range: 0-16 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

This chic column gown gets a little extra sparkle thanks to the allover sequin embellishment on the bodice. A semi-open back offers an even more interesting detail.

Best for the Stylish Bride: Karen Willis Holmes Brooklyn & Jayde

Size Range: 0-16 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

A V-neckline and low back are both sultry elements that add a bit of flair to this stylish dress by Karen Willis. Our favorite detail? The belted waistline and customization options.

Best Floral Embellishment: Justin Alexander Crepe and Lace Fit and Flare Wedding Gown

Size Range: Custom | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe, lace

Most crepe wedding gowns are fairly simple, give or take some beading or lace detailing. This one is covered in floral-inspired lace and illusion netting, giving it an ethereal and dreamy look that is also very chic.

Best for the Winter Bride: Galia Lahav Ivy Gown

Size Range: EU 32-46 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

A high boat neck and long sleeves offer optimal coverage for brides looking to keep warm during their winter nuptials. The clean lines and thick crepe also make it special, even without embellishments.

Best for a Beach Wedding: Jenny Yoo Reva Gown

Size Range: 00-32 | Length: Floor-length | Material: Crepe

This simple dress makes it the best option for a beach wedding, and we especially love the thin spaghetti straps and the slight slit that shows a little bit of skin. The absence of a long train will allow any bride to easily walk down a sandy aisle.

Best for the After-Party: DB Studio Strapless Crepe Feather Mini Dress

Size Range: XS-XL | Length: Mini | Material: Crepe

If you’re looking for a fun dress to change into for the after-party, this David’s Bridal number is the one. With a feathered strapless neckline and thigh-high mini skirt, it’s the perfect option for dancing the night away.

What to Look for in a Crepe Wedding Dress

When looking for the perfect crepe wedding dress for your big day, make sure you know which type of crepe you’d like to wear—lightweight or thick. As previously mentioned, a light crepe, like georgette crepe, is gauzy, a little crinkly, and great for summer weddings. A thick crepe, like a spandex or heavy crepe, is stretchier, more structured, comfortable, and can be worn during any season. Also, look for a dress that fits your vibe and bridal style, as the material is very versatile and can be used with any wedding dress silhouette.

  • How easily your crepe gown will wrinkle depends on the type of fabric. A lightweight crepe dress will crease faster and more easily than a thicker and heavier crepe gown. Additionally, a stretchy, almost scuba-like, crepe will hold its shape and is an ideal wedding gown fabric.

  • Crepe is so versatile that it can be worn at any time of the year. That said, a lightweight and gauzy crepe material is going to look more appropriate for warm-weather nuptials, in the summer specifically. A thick, heavier crepe may work better for fall, winter, and spring.

  • Again, this really depends on the type of crepe. Thin, gauzy crepe may require some shapewear and you might want to wear something smoothing underneath your gown. Thick, heavy crepe is almost like shapewear on its own, and may not need much underneath.
