No matter how long you’ve been with your partner, having a date night together can be a great way to bring some additional romance and fun into your relationship. And whether your ideal date night consists of going out for drinks and dancing, heading to a sports game or bar trivia, or simply hanging at home in your sweats watching movies, there’s no wrong way to spend the occasion, as long as you’re together. One way to jazz things up even more, though, is by giving your partner a date night gift that the two of you can use during the evening (and perhaps even in future date nights to come!).
“What makes a date night gift special is its unexpectedness,” says gifting expert Hannah Redmonds. “It really shows that someone was thinking about you and not reminded by advertising that it’s a gifting season.”
Below, we’ve rounded up great ideas for date night gifts that you and your partner will undoubtedly love using together.
If you and your partner enjoy indulging in some fine wine every now and then, why not set up a wine tasting experience for your date night? You can taste-test bottles you already own or check out some new options, and if you’re in need of some new stemware, you can pick up this set of two Pinot Noir glasses from Total Wine (which delivers, too). Cheers to that!

What to Look for in Date Night Gifts
Every couple has a different budget, so when looking for a good date night gift, make sure you’re picking something that doesn’t stretch your wallets too thin. You want to be able to enjoy the activity together without either of you stressing over how much it costs, especially if you wanted it to be a surprise for your partner.
While some date night gifts only require a few minutes (if any) to set up and can be enjoyed immediately, others require some serious time and effort to put together. Depending on how much of your date night you want to spend working on the gift versus just enjoying each other’s company, choose your option wisely!
“A good date night gift is something that is relevant, useful, sweet and unexpected,” says Redmond. “Pick something that they’ve mentioned before that shows you heard them and that you are always listening. If they have said something to you like, ‘I used to go to the movies all the time as a kid and always got Reese’s Pieces,’ then for a date night while watching a movie at home, pick up some Reeses Pieces! Showing you’re listening is really the gift here, and it goes a long way.”
“Experiences are great gifts,” suggests Redmond. “Watching his favorite movie, playing his favorite video game, watching his old basketball tapes from high school that he’s talked about– giving the gift of your time is a great option.” That said, if you want to get him something physical, then follow her previous advice and get him something he’s mentioned wanting or liking before, but wouldn’t expect to receive from you.
“Romantic gift baskets really vary per person, but you can’t go wrong with things like indulgent chocolates/candy and wine or the ingredients to make a great cocktail,” says Redmond. “Additionally, self care items like candles and massage oils or lotions are always a great idea when it comes to romance and make great gifts. We’d always recommend a handwritten card or note as well—it adds a really nice, personal touch.”
